Autumn is upon us. October is around the corner and so is the library’s programming for the month!!
The Book and Movie Series for October is all about soccer!! Or should it be football? Nick Hornby’s first novel Fever Pitch is autobiographical and tells the story of the author’s relationship with a football (soccer) club. It unfolds the highs and lows of the club through short essays and the author infuses his personal life into the fold. The book discussion will be on Thursday, October 9 at 7:00 p.m.
There have been two films based on this novel. The most recent remake starred Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon and moved from soccer to baseball. Sticking to its British roots and a screenplay adapted by Hornby himself, the Series will be viewing the original British version with Colin Firth two weeks later at 6:30 p.m. The rumors should be squashed right now: the library does not have a staff member who knows way too much about Firth.
The Library and Lunch selection is Lisa Lutz’s The Spellman Files. This year the novel has been nominated for three mystery awards including the Anthony Award and Barry Award both for best first novel. The novel centers on Izzy Spellman, a San Francisco private investigator that began working for Spellman Investigations at an early age. Now in her late twenties she wants out of the family business but has one cold case she’s going to investigate before she leaves. Then her teenage sister goes missing… The Lunchies will meet on Tuesday, October 14 at noon!
