2012 Summer Reading Program
Registration and Reading

May 21st - July 2nd

How the Program Works

Sign up, May 21 - 26, to read during the summer until July 2nd and earn a Summer Reading Program T-Shirt.

Owls reading jetsYou pick how many minutes you will read and what you want to read during the summer, books, magazines, comics, etc. Set a goal to read at least 10 hours during the five weeks and turn in your signed reading log by July 3rd to qualify for a FREE T-SHIRT. Reading logs must be turned in by 1 p.m. on July 3 with your goal met in order to receive a FREE T-shirt.

Pre-Readers up to children entering 6th grade are encouraged to sign-up, and 7th - 12th grade readers can sign up for the "Own the Night" program.

You can find Summer Reading Enrollment forms english / spanish and media permission forms english / spanish online. Please fill them out and bring them to the children's desk the week of May 21st.

Wednesday, May 30 at 3:30 p.m.   Cancelled -  Animals in the Night

This program has been cancelled. We apologize for the inconvenience. Josh Jagels of Meade State Park will be joining us with a program on nocturnal animals. He will be bringing a few for us to see as well.

Tuesday, June 5 at 1:00 p.m.     NASA Movie 'Shorts'

Join us at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, June 5, for some informational shorts about life in space. Topics included are brushing your teeth, exercising, working in space, sleeping. This program is part of our summer reading and is open to the public.

Wednesday, June 6 at 3:00 p.m.     Moon Habitat workshop for 5th and 6th graders

Come and help make a moon habitat large enough to crawl into! No need to bring anything but yourselves!

Wednesday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m.     Dream Big! presented by Mad Science of Central Oklahoma

This summer Mad Science dreams the dream. They let the genie out of the bottle and ask children to dream with them. If they want to fly, dance, dream in color, or make things magically change by the power of their dreams, Mad Science will help them do it, and even find fun along the way!

Monday, June 18 at 10:00 a.m.     Storyteller Rosie Cutrer

Storyteller Rosie Cutrer will share stories from her extensive repetoire of original stories, her own versions of folktales & stories based on literature.

Thursday, June 21 at 6:30 p.m.     Sleepy Storytime & Stuffed Animal Sleepover

This is a reservation only event for children from 5 to 7. Come in pajamas, accompanied by a favorite stuffed animal, for the sleepy storytime then leave your friend for an overnight adventure, picking him or her up after 10:30 the following morning. Stop by the children's desk or call for reservations!

Friday, June 29 at 2:00 p.m.     Magician Steve Crawford presents NIGHT MAGIC

This comedy magic show includes an act in which a solid moon appears and falls to the floor, a Ninja karate act, relating to night time, a floating ball that represents a comet, and a presentation where lightning bugs are pulled from the air.

Summer reading logs will be due on Tuesday, July 3 by 1:00
Tee shirts may be claimed on Friday, August 10, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

About our High Readers' Club: Those who read 35 or more hours during the five week program are eligible for a special event at the end of summer reading.
