Misc Info: Street scene of Beaver, Oklahoma. The buildings are made of wood. There is a large dirt street running in between the buildings. There is a row of buildings, very close together, on both sides of the street. The first building on the right might be a general store according to the partial lettering on the side. Can see a small path in the brush leading to the general store in the foreground of the negative.

Text: Here's another business district view in Liberal probably in the early 20's, to note the model cars which abounded on the streets. It's the corner of Second and Kansas and where you note Star Grocery, Evans Hardware, Scandrett & Fuest Hardware, Smith Bros. Drug and across the street, the George Store and unreadable store fronts. Today you can note in the named order, Mullins Furniture, Arganbright's, Alene's Café, Southwest Photo, Independent Hardware, Smith Drug, Wood's Grisier's, etc. Smith's is the only one that remains under the original name.
Misc Info: Cutline for book: This was Liberal in the 1920's. Star grocery in immediate foreground, then Evans Harness Co,. Scandrett & Fuest Hardware and Smith's Drug, in that order. John George's grocery store is in the background. No paving, no traffic lights, center-street parking. The old town has a long ways to go.

Mr. Custer sits at the desk. Jess McCoid once told how, at Fargo Springs, Custer and another man quarreled in a card game, took to the street, fired a cylinder of cartridges each from revolvers at each other. Text: [front] The Jones and Plummer Trail - Main Street, Beaver City Okla., 1893 [back] The Jones Plummer Trail, circa 1873-1893, extended southward from Dodge City, Kansas, through Beaver City, in No Man's Land, to Fort Elliott, Mobeetie and Rath City, Texas. The trail was the main artery of commerce, first for the Buffalo Hide Hunters and the freighters, later for the cattle herds that ranchers moved up to Dodge City and the Santa Fe railway. I layed out these cards (500) for Mrs. Sharp. Had them printed by Rawleigh Wyant and Don Adams at Southwest Daily Times. H.E.C. 1961 Post Card
