I certainly appreciate then and have added them to my collection, which will pass on to some good repository where they will receive good care and be made available to other writers in the future. If you have others you would care to pass along, do so, for it is a shame so may old papers, letters and pictures are thrown away when an old timer dies. My mother was a great "saver" and I inherited a lot from her, family geneology, etc, etc. Her brother, Ray Hunter, was a rodeo performer back in 1910-14 and she had several good photos of him bronc riding and bull-dogging but somehow they were lost (or taken) from her collections. What I wouldn't give to have them now....

The rabbits are processed for animal food. Mink raisers use them. Farmers feed them to hogs and chickens. Young jacks are good eating an etimated 10,000 to 20000 were killed on this drive. 20 of these jacks will eat as much wheat, grass as a cow. Mrs. Furnas, whose maiden name was Ella McClure, is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. P. McClure, who were very early pioneer residents of Southwest Kansas, and who in later years lived in a two story house at the corner of Grant Ave. and Third St., where the Campion Clinic now stand. Mrs. Furnas is the widow of Marion Eidson, and Will McClure was her brother. She writes: "The picture was of the livery stable and animal hos-pital which was built on the lot on the north side of Second St. (200 block) where Bill Lampe's livery stable had been in the early days of freighting from Liberal to the distant ranches. It marked the change from 'cattle country' to the 'wheat era,' which Southwest Kansas became with the advent of the automobile and oil in-dustry." SWDT - July 19, 1960
